KENT MILLS ORGANISATIONS

In recent years, several organisations have been set up to care for and promote Kent's heritage of traditional mills. Seven of the eight windmills owned by Kent County Council are staffed, managed and opened to the public by voluntary "Friends" groups, under the umbrella of the The Kent Mill Managers group. Other restored mills in the county are owned by private individuals, local councils or charitable trusts. The East Kent Mills Group (which later became the Kent Mills Group) was established in 1975 to promote the county's restored mills, organise milling activities and undertake research. Although the group was officially wound up in the early 21st century, dedicated individuals in the county continue the work of the group. |
