New library and research room. The Mills Archive announces we have now found a suitable location for our extensive collection of books on mills and milling. This new library will also double as a research room for those wishing to inspect the catalogued parts of our collections. The facility will shortly be open to visitors, although by appointment only.

August 2002

The Mills Archive has received donations of several large and exciting collections, now listed on the collections page. All of them contain material that will be of great interest to mill researchers and mill enthusiasts. Cataloguing is under way so that we can give you more detail of what we have available. As you will appreciate, detailed indexing will have to wait until our digital catalogue is on line and our Mill Index is operational, in May 2003, if all goes well.

Included in these donations is the collection of the late Peter Dolman, a central figure in the Suffolk Mills Group, and a strong supporter of the Mills Archive.

June 2002
Mills Archive Online Approved

HLF The Heritage Lottery Fund has approved our request for help with digital cataloguing of a sample of our collections (from 4 sites) as well as corresponding material from the National Monuments Record (Swindon) and the Muggeridge Collection at the Templeman Library at the University of Kent (Canterbury).

Mills Archive Online involves an ambitious programme to make these digitised catalogues from all three archives searchable through this website. The website catalogue (and the computing behind it) will break new ground in making archive material accessible to the public.

Click here for more detail about this project and how you can get involved or be kept informed. Alternatively you can request to be included on our email list for future updates.

March 2002
The Trust was officially launched in the UK

The Mills Archive Trust, registered in the UK (Registered Charity No 1091534), was formally launched at the Spring Meeting of the SPAB Mills Section on March 16th 2002 with a fund raising appeal.

Eighteen Regional and National Mills and Industrial Archaeology Groups have sent us letters of support.
